There are plenty of urban legends explaining their origin story; from a zoo-based breakout that seems straight out of a Pixar film to Jimi Hendrix himself somehow deciding to enhance the local ecosystem by releasing these birds in Amsterdam, for reasons perhaps only known to those who attended Woodstock.
